Our scheduled presenter is unable to attend next week. We are tentatively planning a round table discussion on a topic of common interest to hypnotherapists.

OBJECTIVES of the WHA:

• To further the advancement of hypnosis to a higher professional status.
• To continue advancement in the techniques of supervision and investigation in the field of hypnosis, in instructional material and practice.
• To encourage networking among our professionals, with unity expressed, implied and practiced by each other.
• To provide for the publishing of a quarterly bulletin with emphasis placed on instructional articles and latest developments in the profession.
• To hold bi-monthly meetings to discuss the latest developments and current practices of hypnosis.
• To hold two meetings annually on a state level for all members. (One of these meetings is the annual Spring Convention, which is open to other hypnosis professionals as well as all members of the general public interested in the study of hypnosis.)

A Message from Fred Gilmore…

Professional hypnotherapy in the USA has had a history dating back at least to 1910, when documents show a number of thriving practices. How much further back it goes we do not know, although in Europe it can be traced back at least to the late 18^th Century.

Professional organizations started to pop up in the 1940s. In 1942 the Washington Association of Professional Hypnotists was formed. This later was reorganized to form the Washington Hypnosis Association on April 25, 1960.

The Washington Hypnosis Association was chartered as an organization for the gathering together of professionals and the development of the profession. At this time it was a loosely organized group meeting twice a year to network and socialize.

In 1971 the Washington Hypnosis Association was reorganized on a more professional structure with workshops and conventions held twice a year.

Because of increased membership and travel requirements, the Washington Hypnosis Association divided into Chapters in 1974 to provide better services to the members on the east and central portions of the State.

The Washington Hypnosis Association is still active today. It is the largest association of hypnotists in Washington. It has been instrumental in protecting the position and reputation of the profession.

The Washington Hypnosis Association works closely with the Department of Health and with the Legislature of the State of Washington in maintaining a high level of accountability for the profession in this state.
